The Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) serves as the nation’s premier Petroleum Research and Development (R&D) organization. Established in 1971 as a body corporate under the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), and re-established under Act No. 1 of 2006, HDIP has steadfastly pursued its mission to drive scientific and technological advancements in the petroleum sector, encompassing both upstream and downstream activities.
Over the years, HDIP has become a pioneering institution, playing a critical role in the exploration, development, and sustainable utilization of Pakistan’s oil and gas resources. HDIP has state-of-the-art ISO-9001 certified and ISO-17025 Accredited laboratories with trained professionals who adhere to the highest international standards.

Since 1992, HDIP has maintained the National Energy Database, a vital resource for Pakistan’s energy sector. We are also proud to publish the Pakistan Energy Yearbook and the Pakistan Journal of Hydrocarbon Research, providing essential technical information to industry stakeholders.
