The Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) is the national petroleum Research & Development (R&D) organization. It is an autonomous body of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources established in 1975 under a Resolution of the Federal Government.
The HDIP was re-established under an Act of the Parliament (Act No. 1 of 2006) for the purpose of “undertaking, promoting and guiding scientific research and development in the field of hydrocarbons, and for matters connected therewith or ancillary thereto”

OGRA authorises HDIP to inspect industrial, commercial gas metres

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Tuesday authorised the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) to inspect and test industrial and commercial gas metres on the request of consumers.
All the inspections in future would be carried out by the HDIP and respective Sui companies jointly, the authority said in a news release.
OGRA said it took this decision under the Natural Gas Measurement (Technical Standards) Regulations, 2019.
The authority also directed both the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited and Sui Southern Gas Company to coordinate with the HDIP before initiating inspections, replacement or testing of meters carried out on request of industrial and commercial consumers.
